Panel 03 - Some devils stoning travellers on the road outside Nicea
According to the Golden Legend, when Andrew reached Nicea, the inhabitants told him about a group of seven devils (only two are shown here) who had stationed themselves on the road near the city gate and were killing anyone who passed by with rocks. Gregory of Tours however is more specific;
"After this he went to Nicaea where were seven devils living among the tombs by the wayside, who at noon stoned passersby and had killed many"
The tombs mentioned by Gregory are shown prominently here in the lower part of the panel.
