Panel 22 - Rahab the harlot sheltering Joshua's spies (Jos 2)
Although this top section is badly damaged, it is still just about possible to decipher. The yellow crenellations visible upper centre denote a walled city - which from the context is most likely Jericho. To the right of the central panel a woman in a white dress with long hair can be seen in conversation with one or two men in the adjacent panel. Part of the torso and a fragment of the hair of the same woman survive to the left of the central panel, where she gives instructions (note the raised finger) to a man in the left hand side panel whose posture suggests climbing. One interpretation is that this group of panels shows Rahab talking with the Israelite spies and hiding them on her roof (Jos 2:4-6).
