Panel 19 - The chaff of the winnowed corn is cast into the river
Description:
Although not mentioned in tbe OT, this scene was popular with medieval exegetes as a way of explaining how it was "Jacob saw that there was corn in Egypt." (Gen 42:1). The idea is that when the years of famine had set in, Joseph told his men to winnow the corn from his stores and throw the chaff into the river, whence it floated downstream and was spotted by Joseph's father in Canaan - who thus deduced that corn was available in Egypt.
